The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Teaser Debuts, Unveiling Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will propel Mario to the far corners of the galaxy. There, he will encounter a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Classic Games
Much like the games from the Wii period that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a fan favorite from the previous film.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Come Back and Grow
The film will see the return of the initial voice actors, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases already confirmed for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
