Courageous Rail Employee Receives Severe Wounds Amid Multiple Knife Attack on High-Speed Train

A courageous railway staff member who intervened to save passengers during a mass knife incident on a high-speed train has sustained critical injuries, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Event

CCTV video reportedly shows the employee attempting to stop the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and Huntingdon in the county. Witnesses described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied victims running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in detention for questioning. Authorities declared a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Crisis Reaction and Consequences

The incident on the weekend resulted in 11 people being treated in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have since been discharged from medical care.

A witness recorded the individual waving a large knife and being subdued with a Taser as he confronted officers on the platform. He was allegedly heard shouting, "End my life, end my life."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – particularly the courageous employee of train personnel whose relatives are being assisted by specialist officers,” said a high-ranking police official.

Union Response and Calls for Measures

Rail unions were quick to commend employees and call for increased action. One union leader stated he would be “seeking immediate discussions with government, train companies and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest available assistance, tools and robust procedures in place”.

A different association representative urged the rail company and authorities “to act quickly to review safety, to support the impacted workers, and to make sure nothing like this occurs again”.

Driver Commended for Rapid Action

The operator who halted the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “good”, and has been praised by union officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He didn’t stop the service in the center of two stations where it’s clearly difficult for the first responders to reach, but he continued going until he got to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” explained a association representative.

Further Information

Police said they received the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described at first wondering if the event was a Halloween prank, but soon realized from people's expressions that it was real.

Authorities have stated there is no evidence to indicate the event was a terrorist incident and have requested the public to come forward with any additional information.

Rail services on the impacted route are expected to experience delays until the following day, with travelers advised to postpone their journeys where possible.

Individuals with information that could help the investigation are asked to reach police by sending a message a specific number with a reference code.
