Battlefield 6 Players Agree: Challenges Are Overly Demanding
The launch of the much-awaited Battlefield 6 was met with widespread acclaim, particularly for its premier multiplayer mode. On Steam alone, concurrent player counts peaked at nearly 750,000. However, despite its popularity, many players are protesting against a portion of the release's hardest challenges, which are necessary to unlock specific weapons.
Players have started using custom matches set up using the Portal feature to finish these tasks, highlighting just how grueling these challenges have become.
Understanding Battlefield 6 Objectives
Tasks represent Battlefield 6's permanent multiplayer tasks, in contrast to the periodically changed day-to-day and weekly tasks. The game includes four categories of assignments, but while the majority merely grant skins and a few gadgets, finishing the gun missions is the sole method of obtaining 12 of the 41 main guns found within the game.
A number of these gated guns might eventually earn a place on lists of the finest arms in Battlefield 6.
Player Outcry across Reddit
On Reddit, players are understandably expressing their worries about how hard and tedious several of these challenges are. One user emphasized one of the most extreme examples, required to unlock the KTS100 MK8 LMG:
- Suppress 300 enemies with LMGs
- Deal 10,000 close-range damage with LMGs
"This task is so terrible and entirely ill-conceived, I want to tear my hair out," is a statement that captures just how annoyingly hard these tasks are.
The suppression mechanic in Battlefield is less effective than in previous titles in the series, so it doesn't have anywhere near as many positive effects in fights as it did in previous games. It only tallies as suppression if you fail to hit several consecutive shots.
Additionally, using an LMG from the hip is highly imprecise and functions solely at extremely close range, which isn't typically where you want to be. The commenter also noted the contradiction in the SMG challenge, to unlock the SCW-10, which demands eliminations when scoped in, when that challenge would be much better suited to hipfire kills, and vice versa.
Another Ridiculously Tough Task
A different forum member brought attention to another ridiculously tough challenge, within the marksman rifle class to access the PSR:
- Achieve 150 headshot eliminations from more than 200 meters away with sniper rifles
This is tough enough by itself, but there's another important point to consider: most Battlefield 6 maps fail to facilitate combat at that kind of range.
There is a decent selection of map sizes, but because there are just nine levels in the game currently, it implies you must stick to playing one of the larger locales, Mirak Valley, and perhaps an additional option if you're lucky if you want to snipe from a significant distance.
The Alternative Method
Nevertheless, a method exists: Battlefield Portal. This portal feature is a tool that allows you to create personalized matches on the battleground of your choice, including AI opponents. This means you can cheese the system… but it isn't truly in line with the spirit of the game.
However, when completing the missions in a proper game appears to work against fun, since you must engage in such an unconventional way that harms both you and your squad, who can fault a player for finishing these in a custom game so teammates aren't hindered?
Future Adjustments
It won't come as a surprise if a number of these missions are toned down in the coming days or weeks, because should they remain unchanged, some players simply are unlikely to obtain the locked firearms.
At the moment, the player base continues to express their views on these demanding battlefield assignments, expecting a fairer player experience in subsequent patches.
